Sustainable and automated packaging of confectionery

At ProSweets, ACMA will be showcasing solutions for the sustainable and automated packaging of confectionery, such as smart handling robots.

At ProSweets 2024 in Cologne, ACMA will be showcasing solutions for the sustainable and automated packaging of confectionery. The Coesia Group company's smart handling robots can also safely process flat chocolates.

Greenmation is Coesias Responding to the current trend driven by consumer demand for reusable and recyclable packaging, while manufacturers struggle with labour shortages and rising production costs. .

„In this complex situation, Coesia believes that the answer to this profitability-threatening challenge lies in supporting a manufacturing revolution that is able to combine the principles of automation and sustainability in the Food & Beverage, Pharma and Personal Care and Cross Industry Automation sectors.“

ACMA will be presenting three technological innovations at the trade fair: a robot-assisted distribution system, the CW 600 multi-style packer with the new double-protected sheet packaging and Material Gate, an inspection unit for paper-based materials. The Cologne trade fair is also the ideal stage to present the new „ACMA CARES Programme“ service.

ACMA has three intelligent Handling systems for the confectionery industry The machine is designed to take into account the type of chocolates to be processed, the way they have to reach the machine and the speed of the production line. On the ProSweets there will be a demonstration of a robot-supported distribution system with single and multiple pick-up for flat products, which is able to orientate the chocolates and arrange them in rows. The system is available in two configurations and is designed to pick up random products, sort them and finally feed them correctly orientated into the machine. It is a Modular solution, which is characterised by a space-saving design, for example by integrating the electrical components directly into the machine, eliminating the need for additional control cabinets.

Machines process different materials

The CW 600 is a machine for packaging flat chocolates that can be work with different packaging materials including mono-materials such as aluminium, PP, PVC, cellophane and paper. The machine can process up to eight different packaging formats, which meets the market's requirements for product diversification. The model on show in Cologne is designed to produce the new protected double-wire packaging This is a special type of double wire that is sealed by cold welding. On the one hand, the flavour of the product is better preserved and, on the other, it is protected from external influences such as water, heat, moisture, dust and pests.

Material Gate will also be on display - a test unit that was created in the ACMA's sustainability laboratory and is dedicated to Testing new packaging materials with a twist dedicated. Material Gate can carry out tests with sustainable packaging, an essential part of the development of new packaging materials. In particular, materials for flat or spherical products with double twist can be tested here, checking machinability and resistance to mechanical stress. Through Material Gate, ACMA not only works with primary packaging manufacturers to develop new sustainable materials, but also identifies the precise adjustments that need to be made to customers' machines so that they can process the new materials with the same efficiency as the previous ones.

ProSweets will also be an opportunity to present ACMA CARES, a programme aimed at helping customers to Improve productivity and reduce maintenance costs for their installed base. Based on extensive experience in the field and a strong commitment from the research and development department, ACMA can offer various solutions to support the extend the life cycle of its machines, The programme aims to renew its models - and also to expand the possibilities of the devices, for example with new accessories - and to keep the electronics of the models up to date, which must be adapted to new production requirements, a natural consequence of technological development. An important aspect of the programme is the Adaptation to the latest safety standards and focus on sustainability, to promote environmentally friendly solutions. Another important focus of ACMA CARES is the development of active synergies with customers and the formation of partnerships to support technological progress, a fundamental basis for the development of future machines.
