Südpack develops thermoplastic compounds from conventional and bio-based raw materials at its centre of excellence for compounding. The company also advises customers on optimising and creating their own compounds.
Whether toothbrushes, plastic fittings for vehicles, household appliances, cable insulation, cosmetics packaging, seals, window profiles, furniture or packaging: South pack Thanks to their excellent mechanical properties and optimum processability, compounds can be used in a wide range of industries, especially in technically demanding application areas, are used. They are the combination of modern application technology and unique expertise in the fields of polymers, additives and fillers.
The Südpack portfolio of compounds includes thermoplastic, unfilled, mineral or glass fibre-filled granulates, which are equally suitable for injection moulding, extrusion and filament.
„Our standard compounds form the basis, which we modify according to the desired properties of the end product for each individual customer. This usually allows us to significantly reduce the development process and time-to-market for our customers.“
Dr Kylie König, Business Development Manager for Compounds at Südpack
As a responsible family-owned company focussed on sustainability, Südpack also offers its customers a wide range of services through the use of recycled materials. Solutions for reducing CO2-footprint of their products . The materials used include recyclable materials from the company's own film production, as well as regranulated materials from customers, which are then reincorporated into new compounds wherever possible. The customer decides whether organic or conventional polymers should be used or how high the proportion of recycled material in the compound should be.
„We are very flexible in terms of raw materials and are able to use thermoplastic by-products as well as post-consumer recyclates and bio-based polymers. In principle, even material solutions made from 100 per cent recyclate can be realised, so there is no upper limit in this respect.“
Dr Kylie König
In order to make a fact-based decision in favour of the most sustainable solution, Südpack carries out life cycle assessments for its StarBlend compounds that take the entire life cycle of the materials into account. In addition, the Complete traceability of the raw materials used This ensures that the respective compounds are always available in consistently high quality and in the required quantities along the entire supply chain.
Also for customers who have developed their own compound recipe, help with recipe optimisation or are dependent on additional compounding and production capacities, Südpack is a strong partner. As a contract compounder, the experts not only produce the respective compounds based on the corresponding recipe specifications - they also support their customers with an excellent all-round service, from the procurement of raw materials to the development of a prototype through to industrial production.
As a member of the „Positive Plastics Initiative“, Südpack included its „StarBlend PP 004-01 R T20 N“ compound with 70 per cent PP recyclate in „Sample Kit 3“. The initiative Kits with polymers together, which are suitable for injection moulding and extrusion, have a reduced ecological footprint and therefore contribute to a functional circular economy. With the special shape of the samples, they provide designers and product managers with all the important mechanical and optical properties of a material and illustrate what the respective material could look like as a finished product. At the 32nd IKV International Colloquium on Plastics Technology, which will take place in Aachen on 28 and 29 February 2024, Südpack will be providing information about its entire StarBlend portfolio and all its compounding services at Stand 1.
