At Achema, Watson-Marlow will be showcasing aseptic filling solutions that are suitable for the fill/finish requirements of clinical trials and small batches, among others. For example, a fully automated fill/finish system and a process pump for the pharmaceutical industry will be on display.
The Flexicon FPC60 is a fully automated aseptic fill/finish system for small batches from Flexicon Liquid Filling, a brand of Watson-Marlow Fluid Technology Solutions. It offers a selection of Optional modules for vial feeding, filling, capping and crimping, automatic ejection of rejects and product dispensing. Flexicon FPC60 offers precise filling with an accuracy of ±1.0 per cent with a filling volume of less than 0.2 ml to 100 ml. It fills and caps up to 45 vials per minute.
At the heart of the Flexicon filling systems are the high-precision peristaltic filling units. They guarantee that the valuable products of a biopharmaceutical company are filled with filled with high accuracy and precision without damage can be used. The remote human-machine interface (HMI) of the FPC60 allows recipe creation and remote control from outside the cleanroom, thus helping to reduce the risk of contamination. The recipe can be called up in the cleanroom and the system then aligns itself completely to the required parameters, thus guaranteeing a high level of hygiene. High repeat accuracy and process reliability.
The Certa Plus process pump was developed by MasoSine, a brand of Watson-Marlow Fluid Technology Solutions, for a wide range of applications in the pharmaceutical industry. Certa Plus draws on extensive experience in sinusoidal pump technology. It has a high absorbency to absorb viscous liquids such as creams or gels from the mixing tank/reactor to the filling line without any problems.
Products with a viscosity of 1 to 8 million mPas can be processed without any problems. Thanks to gentle processing with low shear forces, the sinusoidal pump guarantees that gels and soft solids are pumped without damage. The Low shear effect minimises the temperature rise of the medium, ideal for the circulation of sensitive products. Due to its low shear and gentle conveying, Certa Plus is also suitable for use in tangential flow filtration (TFF).
Easy maintenance by the operator on site and 50 per cent lower power consumption compared to other pump types result in low operating costs for process pumps. The CIP (Clean in Place) capability enables Easy cleaning and allows the pump to be integrated without any problems into an aseptic fluid path. The pump can then be wet-cleaned without disassembly and is steam sterilisable and bacteria-proof to avoid the risk of residues and contamination. Certa Plus is fully aseptic certified (EHEDG Type EL Class I and EHEDG Type EL Aseptic Class I).
