The latest Progroup corrugated board plant in Petersberg has been in regular operation since the beginning of August. With the modern production facility near Pirmasens, the Landau-based family business is also creating 60 new jobs and apprenticeships.
Progroup can celebrate another milestone: the latest PW15 plant in Petersberg has been in operation since the beginning of August. the first corrugated board formats in regular operation from the conveyor belt.
„We are consistently pursuing our growth course and are further strengthening our position on the market with this investment. As a family business with roots in the region, the plant is also a clear commitment to the Palatinate as a business location.“
Maximilian Heindl, Chairman of the Management Board of Progroup
Progroup opened its first plant in Offenbach an der Queich more than 30 years ago. The Group Office in Landau is also the administrative centre of the paper and corrugated board manufacturer.
Modern processes and innovative production technology interact perfectly at the PW15 plant to guarantee optimum corrugated board quality and high production efficiency. The plant is equipped with high-tech systems on which up to 200,000 tonnes of corrugated board formats per year can be produced. The Production speed is 400 metres per minute. The speed with which the project was realised was also impressive: The official ground-breaking ceremony only took place in June 2022.

High energy efficiency
A well thought-out concept ensures a sustainable energy supply: Two cogeneration units with a high degree of utilisation and a photovoltaic system on the roof cover the entire electricity requirements of the plant, when corrugated cardboard production operates in two shifts. This also reduces the consumption of fossil fuels. The modern combined heat, power and cooling system utilises the waste heat from the company's own power generation to either produce cooling or feed heat into the heating circuit as required. „This is so efficient that we not only save energy in the manufacturing processes, but also minimise our carbon footprint. heat the approximately 30,000 square metre hall in winter and cool it in summer can,“ explains Maximilian Heindl.
In Petersberg, Progroup has once again realised the model of a packaging park based on a long-term partnership: PW15 stands „wall to wall“ with the production hall of the long-standing customer G&G Preißer. This brings great advantages for both sides: From the fully automated high-bay warehouse with 15,000 storage locations the Progroup corrugated board stacks now run directly to Preißer's packaging production line via a conveyor belt. The smart intralogistics system always knows exactly which stack has to go where and when. The previous Deliveries by lorry are therefore no longer necessary. This not only saves the two partner companies a lot of costs, but also the environment emissions from several dozen lorry journeys - every day.
