At this year's CCE International in Munich, Baumer hhs will be presenting solutions for the application of pressure-sensitive adhesives on e-commerce packaging for practically all market requirements.
The new solutions, each optimised for the different requirements of the e-commerce market, include the tank design of the new Xmelt melter with a capacity of 100 kg, which guarantees optimum and particularly energy-efficient melting of (pressure-sensitive) adhesives in the production of shipping packaging made of strong corrugated cardboard. The control of this melter represents a very Uniform delivery of the adhesives This ensures particularly even adhesive application within narrow limits on strong corrugated board across all speed ranges.
A consistently homogeneous adhesive application is from the fluid-technically revised nozzle of the tried-and-tested application head from Baumer hhs. This ensures that even large quantities of adhesive up to 500 g/m2 an even more even application.
„The waviness of the surfaces of thick corrugated cardboard requires a consistently high-quality adhesive application of between 250 g/m2 and 500 g/m2, which equalises the surfaces of the corrugated cardboard. This is the only way that e-commerce packaging made from strong corrugated cardboard can be sealed easily and without force.“

Improving sustainability in e-commerce
With the latest technology, Baumer hhs also supports the trend in online retail, the Minimise material consumption and transport volume with the help of paper-based lightweight packaging and mailing bags made of folding boxboard or microwave - and thus improve the sustainability of the e-commerce business.
As the surfaces of these materials are considerably flatter than those of corrugated cardboard, an adhesive application of 50 g/m2 up to 150 g/m2 completely, so that the packaging is securely sealed can. For this area of application Baumer hhs The HP 500 SB is a new surface application head that can be used for application quantities of up to 150 g/m2 first-class quality guaranteed.
„SB stands for Snuff Back and means, that this valve closes against the direction of flow. This creates a vacuum. The adhesive flow is interrupted quickly and accurately, which prevents any dripping of the adhesive from the nozzle,“ explains Walther. Baumer hhs now also offers an optimised Xmelt melter for these applications. This has a controller that tracks the adhesive quantities at changing speeds within narrow limits and thus lays the foundation for the high quality of the adhesive application.
This new adhesive application system is complemented by a holder that precise adjustability of the nozzle of the adhesive application valve against the packaging material is made possible. This is also an important prerequisite for achieving high quality adhesive application. Walther: „At CCE International, we will also be discussing the importance of flexibly and precisely adjustable holders for the quality of adhesive application. In the past, this was all too often underestimated.“
