The full-service provider for flooring systems, Uzin Utz, fills its adhesives in sustainable containers from Jokey. A variant made from 100 per cent post-consumer recyclate (PCR) from household collections is currently in use.
Jokey has been supplying Uzin Utz, based in the Danube valley, for over 20 years. During this time the proportion of used plastics in the containers supplied increased to almost 100 per cent. Both companies have been pursuing a gradually evolving sustainability policy for more than three decades.
While Jokey launched the first recyclate bucket for non-food on the market in 1991 Uzin Utz introduced the first generation of environmentally friendly adhesives back in 1980. This was followed in 1997 by the introduction of the first low-emission adhesives under the Uzin eco line. Finally completely switched to canisters made from 100 per cent recycled material in 2020. These efforts also include the containers produced by Jokey from 50 per cent PCR and 50 per cent PIR. These are post-consumer recyclates (PCR) from household collections and post-industrial recyclates (PIR) from industrial waste.
Consumers perceive product and packaging as a unit
The containers from Jokey have been used at Uzin Utz since 2016. With this composition around 35 per cent of CO2 per container compared to new goods saved. This figure increased again last year. This is because the 100 percent PCR variant has been in use for selected Uzin Utz products since autumn 2021. Further products are to be successively converted to this container variant.
The increase in used plastics from household collections also has an impact on the CO2 balance: The saving per container compared to new goods is now 36.5 per cent. Since the gradual switch to 100 per cent PCR, a total of around 56 tonnes of CO2 have already been saved
„The use of containers made from almost 100 per cent recycled material is a logical step for Uzin Utz, especially as consumers increasingly perceive the product and packaging as a unit. Both must be designed for maximum sustainability.“
Philipp Utz, Member of the Management Board of Uzin Utz
Michael Schmitz from Jokey also welcomes the decision: „We are delighted that more and more of our customers are using recyclate containers for their non-food products. In doing so, they are making a responsible contribution to the circular economy and strengthen their green profile in external perception at the same time."
