The coalition's ambitious goals for the circular economy have stalled due to the coalition's exit. The BDE Federal Association of the German Waste Management, Water and Circular Economy is calling for the remaining time until the election to be used to make concrete progress. The National Circular Economy Strategy (NKWS) and other projects are on the back burner, even though they are crucial for resource conservation, climate protection and Germany's competitiveness.
With the break-up of the traffic light coalition, key projects to promote the circular economy remain unfinished. The BDE is calling on the government to use the remaining term of office until the election to get important projects off the ground.
The circular economy is not a luxury, but a necessity. It secures resources, strengthens climate protection and keeps Germany competitive as an industrial location.
BDE President Anja Siegesmund
A key issue is the National Circular Economy Strategy (NKWS), which has been stalled for months. Siegesmund warns: „A failure of the NKWS would be a fatal signal. We need a clear framework to achieve the raw materials transition.“ Other projects such as the recycling label, the digital product passport and the modernisation of the Commercial Waste Ordinance must not come to nothing either.
According to the association, the circular economy is key to minimising the consumption of fossil and finite raw materials and achieving climate protection goals. The BDE believes that this is not only the responsibility of politicians, but also of companies and consumers. The association is calling for concrete incentives to promote circular business models, strengthen investment in modern recycling technologies and regulate the export of recyclable materials.
The BDE President warns that a decisive course can be set in the time remaining until the election. This is not only essential for climate protection, but also for Germany's economic stability and international competitiveness. „Time is pressing. Politics, industry and society must now take joint responsibility.“
