Alpla and Inden Pharma launch joint venture

Alpla expands through the establishment of a joint venture with Inden Pharma its presence in the global pharmaceutical packaging market. The internationally active plastics and recycling specialist Alpla and the Spanish pharmaceutical packaging company Inden Pharma are launching a joint venture in March. long-term partnership for the certified cleanroom production of bottles, containers and closures.

Alplapharma is contributing two production sites in Greece (Koropi) and Poland (Żyrardów) to the collaboration, supplemented by the two Inden Pharma plants in Ibi, north of Alicante, and a fifth plant in Germany (Markdorf), which the two companies are currently building and which is scheduled to start production in June.

Since entering the rapidly growing market for pharmaceutical packaging in 2016 Alpla is constantly developing new countries, technologies and product categories. Inden Pharma is also focussing on strong growth. In the past four years, the company has tripled its turnover to 30.5 million euros in 2022. Inden Pharma sells more than 550 million packs annually in 35 countries on 5 continents.

Technological edge and increased capacity

Around 800 million packs are to be produced in the five jointly operated plants in the first year. The standard products of Inden Pharma will be integrated into the joint product catalogue of Alplapharma and Inden Pharma, which will thus offer more than 150 articles. In the future Expansion into countries outside Europe also planned, including India, the USA and Central and South America.

Walter Knes, Managing Director of Alplapharma, emphasises the importance of technology and know-how transfer: „We are pooling our strengths and distribution networks, using state-of-the-art injection and extrusion blow moulding processes and can draw on our many years of recycling expertise for future developments."

The parties have agreed not to disclose details of the partnership.
