The ALPLA Group is investing a good five million euros in an extrusion plant for food-grade recycled PET (rPET) from used PET bottles at its Italian site in Anagni.
Anagni in central Italy is one of the most important locations for the internationally active manufacturer of plastic packaging and recycling specialist for the production of preforms (preforms). The company, which currently has 91 employees, processes around 50,000 tonnes of PET every year, of which only a very small proportion is currently recycled material.
Preforms made from rPET
In future, a significant proportion of the required quantity is to be covered by recycled material. This will give customers the opportunity to, Preforms made from up to 100 per cent rPET to obtain. Installed for this purpose ALPLA an extrusion plant for 15,000 tonnes of rPET per year on the existing site. The investment sum for the construction of the required building and the plant amounts to more than five million euros. Operations are scheduled to start in the second half of 2021.
Boosting the circular economy
„We will purchase PET flakes from used household packaging from local recyclers, process them into food-grade recycled pellets and use them for preforms at the site,“ explains Fabio Mazzarella, Plant Manager in Anagni.
