Kärcher relies on an alternative to EPS packaging to protect its products during transport. The company uses protective packaging from Storopack, which is made from plant starch, for its steam cleaner.
The product to be packaged is the SC3 steam cleaner from Kärcher. With this step, both companies are promoting their sustainability strategies. Renature 3D is a customised protective packaging, which is mainly made from plant starch exists. It is TÜV Austria certified and therefore home and garden compostable.
Depending on the design of the packaging, the use of this organic material can lead to a CO2-savings of up to 50 per cent. The Starch used for production is a by-product of the food industry, which would otherwise be disposed of. Renature 3D has the same protective properties as EPS and protects products in the shipping carton.
The Moulded parts can be reused several times, Consumers can use them to ship their own goods, for example. The existing packaging can be converted into new geometric shapes with the help of scissors and a little water and used as protective packaging for other objects.
Renature 3D is suitable as a customised packaging solution for all sales markets, from small runs to mass production: compared to the production of EPS moulded parts, no custom-made tools are required. Renature 3D can be used in an extremely compact way, which is why users can continue to use their usual carton sizes. The protective packaging ensures that the goods are protected in the carton: The Moulded parts hold the shipping goods in place and secure it against slipping. The Material absorbs shocks and protects against damage thanks to its special, resistant cell structure during transport. The protective packaging specialist Storopack advises and supports manufacturers and mail order companies on all aspects of their customised Renature 3D protective packaging.
