Aerobal, the international organisation of aluminium aerosol can manufacturers, has now announced the winners of this year's World Aluminium Aerosol Can Award 2022.
This year's winner in the category of aluminium aerosol cans already on the market was chosen by the jury as a can produced by Trivium Packaging Brazil for Rexona. As the official dance partner of Now United, the Rexona graphic shows bright, vibrant colours and at the same time expresses the Group's values by conveying the confidence that the product offers consumers the protection they need to move the way they want.
The sophisticated design required a considerable amount of practical work to ensure, that the faces were printed in the highest print quality while maintaining Rexona's brand positioning, the group's consent and technical feasibility. The visuals celebrate the group members, the movement and the dance.
The detailed faces and bodies are overlaid with colours and graphics; a sophisticated technical design aspect in which Trivium all shades of print with 8-colour dry offset technology had to capture. The aluminium packaging was launched on the market using an alloy developed by Trivium, that contains recycled material, This enables a lower weight and contributes to reduced aluminium consumption with a sustainable impact on the entire supply chain.
The design of the deodorant tin also includes a QR code that connects consumers to a new exclusive dance content hub, a new media platform that creates a close link between brand, product and content.
The winner in the sustainability category is the aluminium aerosol can „Aveo“ from the German can manufacturer Linhardt. The aerosol cans from Linhardt are made from completely and infinitely recycled aluminium. Recycling aluminium consumes only around five percent of the energy needed to produce primary aluminium. In fact, around 75 percent of the aluminium ever produced is still used today.
One way to keep the valuable aluminium in the cycle is to use recycled aluminium for new products. The new aerosol cans from Linhardt for the German drugstore chain Müller's own Aveo brand are made from 100 percent recycled aluminium and therefore have a significantly lower CO2-balance than comparable standard doses.
The rolled strips for the slugs supplied to Linhardt are cast directly from the molten aluminium scrap, eliminating both the energy-intensive second melting process and the transport from the remelter to the slug manufacturer. The Aveo cans are decorated with mineral oil-free colours, with the possible exception of gold and silver-coloured printing.
In the Prototype category, the jury honoured an innovative packaging solution developed by Ball Aerosol Packaging is produced. The can symbolises a new era of sustainable packaging: Ball has a 50 per cent reduction in CO2-footprint compared to a standard aluminium aerosol can and launched its most sustainable aerosol can to date.
The „re:gen“ cans available worldwide show what can be achieved when, thanks to ReAl, the alloy composition developed and patented by Ball, 50 per cent recycled content and low-carbon primary aluminium from renewable energy sources such as hydropower, which produces 75 per cent less CO2e can be combined.
The cans produced are Up to 30 percent lighter than a standard aluminium aerosol can, The result is a lighter packaging, while retaining strength, structure and packaging integrity. The effects of the weight reduction are considerable: less weight and less raw material mean significantly lower energy consumption during production and transport.
