At a virtual event, United Caps presented new fastened caps and lids that are designed to help fulfil the requirements of the EU directive on single-use plastic articles.
The EU directive on fastened closures and lids is seen as a Industry-wide challenge which requires a holistic approach from the entire industry and should have as little impact as possible on the filling lines and other systems in the supply chain.
For this reason, the company has Alliance for Closure Tethering (ACT) to bring together the leading suppliers in this market segment of the packaging industry.
Industry-wide concept for fastened lids and closures
In this context, the effects of various solutions for fastened lids on existing neck finishes were analysed and necessary modifications identified. The aim was to reach an agreement on the best industry-wide concepts for fastened lids and closures and to find a common solution to minimise the Better integration into the supply chain support.
The result: a new portfolio of United Caps Tethered Closures (UCTC) products that are ready for the market, the new Comply with the requirements of the EU Directive and are widely recognised by customers.

Research and development for revised and new products
New in the product portfolio is the closure 29 Flip on for edible oils, which ensures a clean and Drip-free pouring enables. It is easy to open and is equipped with a non-removable TE tamper-evident tape which increases the sustainability of the product. As the TE band and the closure remain intact, the recycling options are improved.

The fastener has also been updated PROLINE 2 for non-carbonated drinks. Weighing just three grams, it offers the same performance characteristics as a much heavier product and is also suitable for use on aseptic systems. To improve its environmental footprint, it is now available in recycled material, but can also be made from conventional raw materials on request.

United Caps also showcased its robust range of lids and closures for edible oils and vinegars, including the Doubleflow closure and a family of closure solutions for 26 mm neck finishes that do not compromise on performance despite their low weight. The company also intends to further improve this product portfolio as part of its research and development activities.
