Frischpack GmbH, a subsidiary of the family-owned companies Alpenhain and ALPMA, is taking over Baackes & Heimes GmbH from Viersen with retroactive effect from 1 January 2017. This brings together two leading private companies in the processing and packaging of cheese products, which previously operated independently and very successfully on the market with different focal points.
Their respective portfolios complement each other perfectly: both companies use state-of-the-art machinery to process a wide variety of cheeses into pieces, slices, grated cheese and cubes. Frischpack, the cheese service provider from Mailling near Schönau in Upper Bavaria, can look back on 45 years of success - Baackes & Heimes on more than 60 years. Baackes & Heimes GmbH will continue to operate on the market as an independent subsidiary of Frischpack GmbH. It will be headed by the previous Managing Director Stefan Welter and Frischpack Managing Director Marian Heinz, who will also take on the role of „Management Spokesman“ for the new Frischpack Group. Manfred Heimes, the previous owner of Baackes & Heimes, will continue to play an active role in the Frischpack Group as a new shareholder. Together with the new subsidiary Baackes & Heimes GmbH, the Frischpack Group now generates a turnover of around 250 million euros, processes up to 60,000 tonnes of cheese and employs around 600 people at both sites.
Prospects for employees and customers
„With this step, two successful companies are combining their different strengths and focuses into one big whole,“ emphasises Manfred Heimes. „And this is more than just the sum of the parts. Synergies can be created and the product and concept portfolio can be expanded and internationalised for the benefit of customers and employees.“ Frischpack Managing Director Marian Heinz adds in agreement: „With our new subsidiary Baackes & Heimes, the Frischpack Group is in a position to offer even more diverse packaging solutions and services from a single source for all customers, whether food retailers, food service providers or retailers, Bulk consumer, industry or co-packing. Together, we can offer all employees in Viersen and Mailling even more interesting future prospects and thus secure jobs.“ The two company sites form the basis for the Frischpack Group's growth strategy. With over 100 years of combined expertise in the processing of hard and semi-hard cheeses as well as in customised concept solutions, the aim is to guarantee customers from the retail, bulk consumer, industrial and co-packing sectors the best possible range for everything to do with cheese.
