BASF has started construction of a polyethylene (PE) plant at the Verbund site in Zhanjiang, China. Production plant on a global scale to go into operation in 2025.
The new plant with an annual production capacity of 500,000 tonnes of PE is intended to meet the rapidly growing demand in China. The plant is scheduled to go into operation in 2025.
"The Demand for PE in China has grown rapidly and will exceed demand in the rest of the world. With the groundbreaking ceremony, BASF is entering the PE market in China and will set up a competitive production facility at the fully integrated production site in Zhanjiang to serve our customers in the consumer goods, packaging, construction and transportation industries," says Bir Darbar Mehta, Senior Vice President, Petrochemicals Asia Pacific at BASF
"The Zhanjiang Verbund site is strategically located close to our customers and is fully backward integrated to provide them with high quality and reliable PE products for a wide range of durable applications.
