According to Perlen Industrieholding AG, it has reached key milestones in its transformation from a traditional paper manufacturer to a diversified industrial company. In addition to new speciality papers, the company is expanding its activities in the area of fibre-based packaging solutions in particular, thereby opening up new, high-growth markets.
Perlen Industrieholding AG is systematically pressing ahead with the strategic reorganisation of its business model. Following restructuring and cost-cutting measures in 2025, the company, together with its subsidiary Perlen Papier AG, is increasingly focussing on product innovations outside the traditional graphic paper market. A central component of the realignment is the entry into fibre-based packaging solutions and the development of new speciality papers for flexible packaging applications.
New speciality papers for packaging and labels
In parallel to its core business with press and magazine papers, Perlen Papier AG develops recyclable speciality papers for flexible packaging. These are intended for applications in the food and labelling sectors, among others, and have integrated barrier properties. According to the company, the new products are intended to enable sophisticated packaging applications and at the same time open up greater potential for added value. Production can be carried out using existing systems.
Entry into fibre casting-based packaging solutions
Another focus of the transformation is the entry into fibre-based packaging. This is seen as a recyclable alternative to plastic packaging and is increasingly being used as trays, packaging or bottles. According to Perlen Papier AG, the cast fibre products can be easily disposed of in the waste paper cycle and combine cost-effectiveness with sustainability aspects. The first products are currently in the test phase. Thanks to the existing fibre infrastructure and know-how, the company believes it is well positioned to develop this business segment in Switzerland.
Presentation at the Empack Bern
The new packaging solutions will also be the focus of Perlen Papier AG's trade fair appearance at Empack Bern on 28 and 29 January 2026, where the company intends to present test products made of cast fibre and new special papers for packaging applications for the first time and seek dialogue with potential customers and partners.
