The best corrugated cardboard in Austria

In Austria, the Forum Wellpappe Austria once again honoured special packaging solutions with the Wellpappe Austria Award.

Today, many products are packaged in corrugated cardboard. The designs and innovations in packaging are just as diverse as the packaged products. In Austria, special packaging solutions were once again honoured with the Corrugated Board Austria Award.

For the tenth time in succession, the Corrugated Board Austria Awards honoured the best corrugated board packaging solutions. A jury selected the finalists and winners from numerous submissions. The award is presented in six categories and recognises the Innovative strength and creativity in the industry. This year, a special prize was again awarded for outstanding print design.

„Once a year, we bring our corrugated board champions onto the big stage and honour them with the Corrugated Board Austria Awards,“ says Stephan Kaar, spokesman for the domestic corrugated board industry.

„The award is the annual showcase and demonstrates the importance and added value of our packaging material for industry, retail and consumers. Corrugated board packaging offers protection, increases durability, is an advertising ambassador and is sustainable by nature.“

Around 100 guests attended the award ceremony at the CasaNova cabaret in Vienna and were just as enthusiastic about the ideas as they were about the jokes of cabaret artist Gerald Fleischhacker. Each winner of a Wellpappe Austria Award received an original wooden sculpture by Vorarlberg artist Stefan Kresser. The event is not only a homage to the best packaging solutions, but also a platform, to present the advantages of corrugated board as an environmentally friendly and versatile packaging material. The award ceremony was hosted by Daniela Soykan-Tober.

More than 150 years ago, Albert Jones came up with the idea of using corrugated paper to protect glass bottles. After the Modelled on a pleated fabric, the paper was given the necessary stability by the waves. A short time later, Jones invented the first corrugated cardboard by gluing a paper web onto the corrugated paper. Thus, in 1871, a packaging material was created that was to conquer the world. In the Corrugated board category The cake packaging Vollpension, the packaging for grandma's cakes with a built-in sound effect, submitted by Dunapack-Mosburger GmbH.Vienna. DS Smith Packaging Austria, Kalsdorf wins the corrugated board constructive category for TransSteel, packaging for a welding machine, a modular packaging concept for the heavy welding torch.

In the Point of Sale category, Rondo Ganahl AG from St. Ruprecht wins with the Rosé DAC range packaging, the horizontal wine packaging in a striped design. The Monkey47 gin display, submitted by Margarethner Verpackungsgesellschaft, wins in the Corrugated Board Displays category. The creative displays made of corrugated cardboard skilfully sets the scene for the fine spirits and a little monkey.

The Ringana shipping packaging Mexico, manufactured by DS Smith Packaging Austria, wins the sustainable corrugated cardboard category. The transport packaging is suitable for various cosmetic products and also has a practical tear strip. A young designer from Mondi Grünburg won the young talent category. He has created a Presentation case for glasses with precise contour cut-outs for wine glasses. And this year's special prize for outstanding print design goes to Rondo Ganahl AG from Frastanz for APEX Promotionbox. An extraordinary print image on corrugated cardboard that is reminiscent of a painting.
