The Swedish paper specialist BillerudKorsnäs AB has now launched a paper on the market in which the grease-resistant barrier is 100 per cent plant-based.
Paper-based packaging used in bakeries, grocery shops and fast-food restaurants often has a fat barrier from a non-degradable chemical from the group of per- and polyfluorinated compounds (PFAS).
„We are seeing an increasing demand for alternatives to PFAS-treated products. We are therefore proud to present our Repel Pure paper today,“ says Helene Biström, Executive Vice President Division Paper at BillerudKorsnäs.
The bio-based barrier in combination with sustainable primary fibres makes Repel Pure into a grease-resistant and environmentally friendly packaging material for food.
Last year, Billerudkorsnäs 1.3 billion Swedish kronor at the Skärblacka production site invested in new technologies. One of the latest new developments from the plant is Repel Pure.
„This enables us to fulfil customer requirements for flexible packaging at a completely new level,“ says Helene Biström.
