Bizerba is continuing the positive development from the previous year in the first months of 2021. The Retail division in particular is currently experiencing high demand. A new business model is also planned for 2021: The K3 retail scale is to be offered in a subscription model for the first time.
Bizerba, one of the leading providers of hardware and software solutions in the field of weighing, slicing and labelling technology, generated global sales of 729 million euros in 2020. The family-owned company from Balingen, Baden-Württemberg, was thus able to exceed the sales by four per cent compared to the same period last year.
Sales in the past financial year are traditionally based on in a strong domestic market. With a 25 per cent share of sales, Germany is still the most important market for Bizerba. Around half of sales were generated in other European countries. 23 per cent came from the Americas region, which grew in comparison to the previous year.
New global logistics centre in Balingen
Construction of the new, state-of-the-art global logistics centre for spare parts logistics at the main and service location in Balingen began in 2019. The target of completion by the end of 2021 is currently estimated to be easily achievable. Full commissioning is planned for the beginning of 2022. The logistics centre includes a pallet warehouse and a small parts warehouse with semi-automated picking. It is designed for around 45 employees and approx. 1,000 parcels per day.
The checkout solution was launched in Turkey and the Czech Republic. Supersmart powered by Bizerba, a cooperation with the Israeli start-up Supersmart, in large store chains. The first installations have already been carried out in other countries such as Germany.

Further innovations were launched in the industrial environment in 2020. The labelling sector is experiencing strong demand for linerless labels. The labels are not fully covered with adhesive on the back so that cutting the labels in the labelling process no longer leaves any adhesive residue on the knife. Bizerba invests in digital transformation
Today, no scale works without the software. Bizerba is systematically expanding its software expertise. The focus is on Digital solutions for industry and retail in focus. Bizerba solutions are all networkable and can be integrated into the Internet. This opens up an enormous number of possibilities via the software, which are realised via apps, the integration of artificial intelligence (e.g. object recognition) and the combination of these technologies. Not only is Bizerba's product portfolio being digitalised, but internal processes and workflows are also being digitally optimised.
Expansion of production capacities
The capacities at Bizerba's main plant in Balingen are reaching their limits. Increasingly volatile markets and rising quantities require more flexible production and the ability to distribute capacities. For this reason, Bizerba has Expansion of production in Eastern Europe decided. Over the next few years, Bizerba will be investing around EUR 30 million in a new production building with around 10,000 square metres for up to 300 employees at its site in Valjevo, Serbia. Preparations and planning are already underway and production in Valjevo is scheduled to start at the end of 2022.
