Borealis is expanding its production capacity for an innovative polymer foam solution called Daplo High Melt Strength Polypropylene (HMS PP) at its Burghausen site. With this investment totalling over 100 million euros, the company says it is responding to the growing global demand for recyclable, high-performance foamed solutions.
The new plant, which is scheduled to come on stream in the second half of 2026, will triple Borealis' supply capacity for fully recyclable HMS PP. This expansion will enable the transition to more circular solutions and recyclable materials.
Daploy HMS PP was developed at the Borealis Innovation Headquarters in Linz, Austria. The new product is characterised by exceptional foamability, low weight and mechanical strength - properties that support material efficiency and help to reduce both costs and CO2 emissions, according to the company. It is suitable for the Use in monomaterial solutions, which are easily recyclable at the end of their service life.
Daploy HMS PP fulfils the growing demand for reusable and recyclable solutions in numerous industry segments and supports the sustainability principles „Reduce, Reuse and Recycle“: The properties of Daploy HMS PP make it ideal for a wide range of applications in the consumer goods sector, such as reusable coffee cups and food packaging. As a lightweight, recyclable material that supports reuse, it helps packaging manufacturers to fulfil the requirements of the EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR).
