Smurfit Westrock's automatic TopClip system for bundling beverage multipacks is 100 per cent paper-based, biodegradable and has a 30 per cent lower carbon footprint than shrink wrap.
Reducing plastic remains one of the biggest challenges facing the packaging industry. The beverage industry in particular, which traditionally relies heavily on plastic packaging, is at the centre of this. With the paper-based TopClip system, Smurfit Westrock has developed a Sustainable alternative for bundling beverage multipacks and is thus also revolutionising the packaging concept of breweries.
The Belgian contract brewery BeerSelect was looking for packaging that was in line with its sustainability goals and that would Efficiently produced in-house could be realised. Smurfit Westrock reviewed BeerSelect's operations and decided that the most effective solution was to install the Mid-Speed TopClip machine at the brewery.
„The automated TopClip system was specially developed for small and medium-sized breweries, as it 30,000 cans per hour and is flexible enough to switch between different configurations for bundling four, six and eight can packs.“

BeerSelect co-founder Kasper Peeters adds: „The most tangible advantage of TopClip is the use of a Packaging solution that does not harm the environment. The implementation of a customised machine system also makes a big difference to the simplicity and speed of production.“
The TopClip system has a 30 per cent lower CO2 footprint than shrink packaging and is 100 per cent recyclable. Renewable, recyclable and biodegradable. It also presents the products much more effectively than the complete packaging solutions usually used for beverage cans. With the TopClip system, Smurfit Westrock wants to set an example for sustainable packaging solutions and support customers in achieving their environmental goals.
