BW Converting's Packaging Innovation Center in Green Bay, USA, offers converters practical training, individual advice and machine demonstrations on all aspects of flexographic printing for packaging applications.

The centre was specifically designed for the training and further education of machine operators and for customer workshops. In a fully equipped pressroom environment, participants can work under real production conditions on flexo and digital printing machines and bag production systems and practise typical tasks in packaging printing.

Training environment with a focus on practice and troubleshooting

The technical equipment includes facilities for printing plate production and plate mounting, flexographic and digital printing machines as well as converter modules for pouch applications. The equipment was recently supplemented by a laser-based anilox cleaning system of the type PCMC Meridian Elite+, which, according to BW Converting, can clean up to four anilox rollers simultaneously and without water, chemicals or compressed air. The aim is to reduce makeready times and make cleaning processes more resource-efficient.

In small groups, participants practise under the guidance of experienced trainers how to identify and rectify typical error patterns, how settings on the machine affect the print result and what role substrates, inks and printing plates play in the overall result.

Seminars for packaging printing specialists

In terms of content, the training courses covered key aspects of flexographic printing - from machine preparation and operation, printing plates, mounting tapes and doctor blades to process colours, colour management, surface pretreatment and corona equipment. Participants work directly on running machines in order to closely combine theory and practice and gain routine in operation.
