For the Pro Carton Student Video Award, European students have to create short films in which the advantages of cartonboard as a packaging material are demonstrated. We show the winners.

The competition took place for the second time this year. Entries came from 17 countries across Europe. On the jury: experts from the fields of advertising, film and the cartonboard and folding carton industry.

The panel of experts had the difficult task of scrutinising the sometimes impressive videos and then selecting the best ones. Three participants were awarded first place and won 2,000 euros each. Two other participants were „highly commended“ and rewarded with 500 euros, while a further six participants were also „commended“.

„CARTON BOAT“

The first winning entry was the innovative „CARTON BOAT“ by Isa Mutevelic. The Austrian student, who attends the Higher Graphical Federal Education and Research Institute in Vienna, wanted to clearly demonstrate the resilience of cardboard and the almost endless possibilities that the material offers. After announcing his idea of building a watercraft out of cardboard and receiving nothing but disbelief and criticism, Isa proved all his critics wrong by constructing a rowing boat out of cardboard called „Cartonic“ and rowing it across a lake.

„OPTICARTON - The Vision Outside The Box“

Two Italian students from the IAAD - Bologna, Silvia Baldo and Olimpia Bonvecchio, also won first prize with her video „OPTICARTON - The Vision Outside The Box“. The exciting entry was filmed from a first-person perspective and shows a person wearing vision-altering cardboard glasses. The film depicts three missions, each highlighting an advantage of cardboard - such as the fact that it is recyclable and renewable. At the end of the game, the viewer is invited to „pass on the vision“ by passing the „glasses“ to someone else.

„Packaging For A Better World“

Most recently, Eve Pitt from the University of Surrey also received the winning title for her video „Packaging For A Better World“, which was inspired by the Pro Carton slogan. The entry shows a man in his workshop using cartonboard to create a beautiful natural environment of waterfalls, rocks and trees. The video conveys the message that we can create a better and more liveable world by using sustainable packaging materials.
