Cartonboard and folding cartons as pioneers in the circular economy

VIDEO - With the Green Deal, cartonboard and folding cartons are becoming pioneers in sustainability. Winfried Mühling from ProCarton explains why.

As an association, Pro Carton not only brings together the various players in the cartonboard and folding carton sector. With its awards, Pro Carton also honours successful packaging and designs and supports young talent. Winfried Mühling, Director of Marketing and Communication, spoke to us at interpack.

Fibre-based packaging points the way to a low-carbon circular economy. Consumers are also showing a preference for renewable raw materials in packaging. However, the materials must be used in a balanced way and the proportion of recycled fibre also plays an important role. In view of the ambitious goals of the EU's Green Deal, fibre-based packaging appears to be convincing. Recycling and collection systems also play an important role here, as an increase in the recycling rate is also desirable for fibre-based materials.
