What would Christmas be without wrapping paper? This year, brown kraft paper and recycled paper are in vogue - printed in one colour or without any print at all. This is according to the Association of German Paper Mills (VDP).

In terms of colour, brown, pink and shades of green dominate the wrapping paper market. Classic red is declining somewhat, but gold and silver are in demand again this year, according to the association. The Demand for environmentally friendly gift packaging continues to grow. Reusability is also a major issue, which is why gift boxes - covered with wrapping paper - and gift bags are very popular.

Due to Corona, more handicrafts are being made again this year and more time is being taken to wrap presents. In any case, more attention is being paid to beautiful packaging this year - you don't know whether you might only be allowed to leave presents at the door.

When everything is unpacked, the wrapping paper should be put in the waste paper bin are given. In this way, it contributes to the enormously high recycling rate in Germany. For every 100 tonnes of new paper, the German paper industry uses 78 tonnes of waste paper, according to the VDP. A total of around 17.1 million tonnes.
