The European platform for sourcing recycled plastics, Cirplus, is expanding into India to meet the growing demand for recycled plastics in India and other Asian markets.
With this step, Cirplus also wants to increase the availability and quality of recycled plastics in Asia and drive the transition from virgin to recycled materials. India had introduced new regulations for plastics and thus created a favourable business environment for recycled plastics, which, according to Cirplus, exceeds the EU's ambitions.
Under these new regulations (Plastic Waste Management Rules 2022 and India Plastic Pact), manufacturers, importers and brand owners are required, among other things, to increase the use of recycled material in all packaging sold on the Indian market. The targets are between five and 30 per cent by 2025 and apply to the entire range of packaging, from rigid to flexible to multilayer. These new framework conditions are intended to help companies rapid move away from new goods and provide investors with a reliable framework for the development of new and improved recycling capacities.
„We are excited to bring our digital procurement solution to the Asian market and support the transformation of the plastics recycling landscape on a global scale. With this expansion, we are not only addressing one of the most pressing environmental challenges, but also creating new opportunities for businesses and communities across India and Asia. With our proven model and expertise in digital sourcing of post-consumer and post-industrial recycled plastics, we offer brand owners and converters around the world a comprehensive, convenient and cost-effective way to achieve their sourcing goals.“
Christian Schiller, CEO and founder of Cirplus
