After a year of working together to improve the circular economy, DS Smith, a provider of display and packaging solutions, and the non-profit Ellen MacArthur Foundation a first positive balance.
„We welcome the steps that DS Smith has taken to implement the principles of circularity in Packaging design and production to be anchored in the future. This is underlined by DS Smith's leading role in circular design and recycling. We are excited about the potential impact DS Smith can have on the circular economy, the supply cycle and product development by continuing its partnership with the Foundation.“ Hugh McCann, Strategic Partners Lead - Europe at the Ellen MacArthur Foundation
Project Circulytics
Last year, DS Smith worked closely with the foundation as a pilot partner for its circular economy tool. Circulytics worked together. The tool is used to Measure circulatory capacity in a simple and effective way. This enables companies to determine their current status. Internal processes can then be improved on this basis.
The two partners have also worked together on the development of Circuit design principles worked on. These focus on the sustainable design of packaging for a circular economy. They have now been implemented across DS Smith's entire 700-strong design team worldwide. The aim is to ensure that the solutions developed are suitable for the circular economy in theory, but also in practice.
Further expanding activities
In the second year of the partnership, the partners are continuing their activities to promote a more circular economy. In addition to innovation and circular design projects, training and further development of the teams are also planned.
„The development of our circular design principles, the support we provide in designing Circulytics and the embedding of circular training throughout the company were key projects. They demonstrate our commitment to the circular economy. I look forward to seeing the partnership continue to grow and flourish over the coming years as we work together to ensure DS Smith continues to redefine packaging for a changing world.“ Wouter van Tol, DS Smith's Head of Sustainability
