Aimplas, the Technological Institute for Plastics, and Arburg have started a collaboration in the field of additive manufacturing. Using the Freeformer 200-3X from Arburg, new materials for the medical sector are being tested and researched to fulfil strict technical requirements.

Aimplas and Arburg have launched a partnership to explore the possibilities of additive manufacturing for demanding sectors such as medicine. By providing the Freeformer 200-3X from Arburg, a device for additive manufacturing, Aimplas Various experiments with high-performance materials including biopolymers and granulates approved for medical use. The aim is to identify and develop materials that are suitable for the manufacture of products such as orthoses and absorbable implants.

The Freeformer 200-3X enables the Processing of a wide range of materials, which differ in functionalities such as strength, breaking strength and water resistance. By adjusting the process parameters, component properties can be controlled in a targeted manner, which makes the Production of small series supported with customised adaptations.

The one-year cooperation agreement provides for Arburg's Freeformer to be used for tests and research purposes. In September 2024, the Aimplas team received training on how to use the system in order to optimally implement the specific requirements of materials research and to Innovative solutions for the medical sector to develop.
