In order to be clearly visible at the point of sale, sweets are often displayed hanging in supermarkets. The Euro hole that holds the packaging on the hook is often made of plastic and must be designed to hold the weight of the sweets. Walki now offers an alternative hole made of paper.

Walki now brings a new, reinforced Euroloch bag concept onto the market, which is made entirely of paper. and prevents the bag from tearing at the perforation.

„The fact that the flat bags are presented hanging on hooks in stores is the reason why very few confectionery manufacturers have switched from film to paper so far. The paper bags were previously not stable enough to prevent the bag from tearing at the perforation.“

Andreas Rothschink, Head of Product Development and Technical Service, Consumer Packaging Division, Walki Group

The new WalkiSeal REH (Reinforced Euro Hole) concept makes it possible for brand owners, to switch from film bags to fibre-based alternatives. By attaching an additional strip in the area above the Euro hole, the bag can be made entirely of paper. The double-layer strip is invisible to the consumer, but acts like a safety belt for the paper bag.

„No additional effort is required on the part of the brand owner or the company that fills the pouches,“ explains Rothschink. The pouch can also be filled in non-food segments for DIY supplies such as screws or for toys such as building blocks be used. As the bag is made from paper, the company says it is Fully recyclable in the paper stream. The bag was developed in close cooperation with the packaging machine manufacturer Rovema developed.
