In turbulent times, demand for corrugated board remains high and the corrugated board industry is set to record sales growth of 6.9 per cent in 2021. Following the persistently high prices for raw materials during the coronavirus pandemic, the industry is now facing the effects of the war in Ukraine. Overall, the VDW recorded a Corrugated board sales of 8,656 million square metres for 2021. This is 557 million square metres more than in 2020, meaning that the corrugated board industry has significantly exceeded its growth target of one per cent for 2021, which was forecast in December 2020.

E-commerce is booming

The decisive factor here was an increase in demand for consumer goods such as household and optical appliances. Demand for intermediate goods for further processing in production, such as batteries, accumulators or electronic components, was also higher than in other years. Appeal to politicians

Politicians must do everything in their power to achieve a ensure uninterrupted gas supply and cushion the negative economic consequences of the war. "This is the prerequisite for the corrugated board industry to continue to successfully contribute to the smooth functioning of supply chains," said the association chairman in his urgent appeal.
