After a year's break due to the pandemic, the cosmetics supply industry and its customers are meeting in person again. At CosmeticBusiness 2021 from 20 to 21 October, around 270 exhibitors will present new product concepts for the cosmetics industry at the MOC Munich.
Sustainability is also important on the CosmeticBusiness 2021 the topic of packaging. From resource-saving concepts to bio-based and biodegradable materials to recyclable labels, exhibitors will be presenting solutions that are both sustainable and creative. Here is a selection:
Eco-Design meets recyclate
Recyclates, recyclability and (weight) reduction are the three Rs that are part of every sustainable packaging solution. The „PCR Max“ tube from Albéa with the Eco-Design Light „SLIM“ closure made of PE combines the three points. It is made from an easily recyclable mono-material, has a reduced wall thickness of 350 µm and has a PCR content of around 57 per cent - for a 200 ml tube with a diameter of 50 mm without the cap. If the latter is included, the proportion is still 38 per cent.

Airless dispenser made from recycled materials
With the Eco line, Aptar offers airless dispensers made of 100 per cent PP/PE with a recyclability of 96 to 98 per cent certified by Cylos HTP. Building on this, the company offers various PCR solutions. With Micro 30 ml R-PET, over 60 per cent of the airless dispenser is made from mechanically recycled PET PCR. With ISSC Plus Circular plastic, all PP parts are made from 100 per cent chemically recycled material. The PP parts of the Micro ECO and Mezzo ECO products consist of 50 per cent mechanically recycled PCR Plus. The PCR content of the entire dispenser is over 40 per cent.

Mono sealing films made of PET and PP
The new plastic sealing films BaCo Sealfilm Mono-PET and BaCo Sealfilm Mono-PP from Ballerstaedt are made of pure mono-material. In contrast to conventional sealing materials, which are usually made of composite materials and therefore cannot be industrially separated into their components, the mono films can be easily recycled. Made from pure PET or PP, they can be separated or fed into the recycling stream together with the container. The mono films are suitable for sealing products from all industries. They have a barrier against oxygen and water vapour.

Bag packaging with uncoated paper
New high-barrier materials make it possible to produce paper pouch packaging. They consist of brown uncoated paper and white paper and are suitable for all dry, pasty products. Thanks to their matt look and natural paper structure, stand-up pouches can be designed with a paper look. The unprinted areas have a clear paper structure. However, strong and bright colours also come into their own on the materials. Harder-online GmbH also offers a 100 per cent recyclable, white natural paper for its flat bags, which is suitable for solid products, pastes and powders.

Airless without geometric restrictions
Canvas Airless from Louvrette is the first product of a new, patented technology for airless products. The packaging is produced by bi-injection of an inner and outer layer, which is then blown into shape and assembled with an airless pump. When the pump is activated, the inner layer dissolves into a pouch that folds in on itself, allowing the contents to be dispensed. Canvas Airless frees the brands from the geometric limitations of the piston system and enables a variety of new shapes.

Ampoule box for travelling
The special feature of the handy box from Lutz Packaging is the integrated ampoule breaker. It makes it easy to use ampoules, especially when travelling. It is also characterised by its light weight and small size, which means it also fits in a handbag. The box can be supplemented with the ampoule sprayer. It is also equipped with an integrated ampoule breaker. Cosmetic products such as moisturising fluids, fragrances and flavourings can be used with the sprayer, as well as vitamin preparations from the food supplement sector and medical products. Two ampoule sizes - 1 ml and 2 ml - can be inserted into the sprayer, where they are then tightly sealed. The box and sprayer are available in four colours and can be printed with a logo.

Double-wall can series made from mono-PP
With a new standard line, Hopf Packaging now also offers double-wall cans made of mono-PP. By using a single material, the packaging can be easily recycled. The surface of the tins is glossy and all components can be coloured and finished as required. The range comprises five sizes from 15 and 30 to 50, 200 and 250 ml. Further sizes are being planned.
