Co-packer Cosmo Foods is the first company in Japan to install a Combismile high-speed filling machine from SIG, paving the way for bringing on-the-go beverages to consumers.
In Japan, the demand for healthy, unusual and high-quality drinks in on-the-go portion packs is growing. The 50:50 joint venture DNP - SIG Combibloc Co., Ltd. is therefore bringing a new packaging and corresponding filling technology to Japan with the on-the-go carton pack Combismile. With the integrated drinksplus technology Cosmo Foods has the opportunity to develop and bottle a wide range of new product concepts - for example Drinks with pieces of real fruit or vegetables. This opens up a wide range of opportunities for collaboration with leading Japanese food and beverage brands.
With a curved shape and rounded corners, Combismile aims to offer mobile consumers convenient drinking pleasure straight from the pack. To this end, the packaging has a leak-proof and tamper-proof single-action closure. Only pulp from FSC-certified, responsibly managed forests and other controlled sources is used to produce the raw cardboard.
„The new combismile filling line will be located at our plant in Komono. Cosmo Foods currently offers co-packing of beverages in plastic packaging. But we have decided to add carton packs to our portfolio due to their good environmental profile. The filling technology from SIG enables us to also fill beverages with a unit content in carton packs and to carry out product and volume changes quickly and easily. With this new system, we are giving brand manufacturers the opportunity to bring products with high added value onto the market.“ Hideki Kasai, President at Cosmo Foods
Combismile offers flexibility and efficiency
The Combismile filling technology from SIG offers flexibility, High efficiency (24,000 packs per hour) and a low reject rate. Another reason why Cosmo Foods chose Combismile is the conviction that the technological strength of DNP and SIG and the opportunities to develop new products will enrich the Japanese beverage market with value-added products.
By utilising Cosmo Foods' capacity to fill products in Combismile, food and beverage manufacturers benefit from short delivery times until a product is finished, filled and ready for the market. The co-packing route also keeps overheads and costs to market entry to a minimum.
„Today's announcement is an exciting milestone for the joint venture between SIG and DNP. Together with Cosmo Foods, we will bring quality beverages to the Japanese market. Combismile offers unrivalled advantages in terms of productivity and differentiation that other suppliers in Japan cannot offer. It is the perfect solution to meet the changing regional market needs and gain a competitive advantage.“ Kazuhiro Masukura, General Manager Sales at DNP
