Coveris is investing an additional £1 million in its Spalding site, which specialises in linerless labels, to meet increasing demand in the UK market and drive strategic growth into new segments such as ready meals and to-go products.
The measure is part of an investment programme launched in 2022 to further develop innovative linerless solutions. This latest step increases the total investment volume at the site to £2.5 million. At the Spalding site, Coveris operates the UK's only production facility specialising in linerless labels. Over one billion labels are produced here every year for the British and European FMCG industry (e.g. food, drinks and household products).
With the current Investment in a new ten-colour MPS flexographic printing press - in operation since June 2025 - Coveris is expanding its production capacities in a targeted manner to meet the increasing demand in the UK market and to promote strategic growth in new segments such as ready meals and to-go products. The new press is designed for use on paper and polypropylene substrates (PP) and enables the production of sustainable labelling solutions in line with Coveris' No Waste vision.
The MPS technology used with the e-sleeve printing function ensures maximum precision, less material waste and more efficient machine changeovers. Continuous quality control across the entire web width ensures that potential errors can be recognised and corrected immediately. Furthermore the integrated cold foil finishing enables decorative, eye-catching finishes for all linerless label formats from Coveris.

Designed for all central applications - including Slidewrap, C-wrap, envelope and tray labels as well as contour-adapted formats for skinpack solutions - the new press offers higher production output with consistently outstanding print quality and technical precision.
„This strategic investment marks another milestone on the way to positioning our specialist centre in Spalding as a leading provider of linerless labelling solutions. Demand is growing continuously - both in established applications and in new categories such as ready meals. With expanded capacities and technological expertise, we remain the preferred partner for sustainable labelling innovations.“

Linerless labels are a More sustainable alternative to conventional self-adhesive labels, as they do not require backing paper. This reduces label weight by up to 40 per cent, enables more labels per roll, reduces waste and minimises machine changeovers. Premium formats such as slidewrap or wrap-around labels also offer a material-reduced alternative to cardboard banderoles. They combine sustainability with a strong shelf impact and are ideal for brands that want to reduce packaging weight without sacrificing visual appeal.
The linerless label range from Coveris is specially designed for for use on systems from the company Ravenwood Packaging develops and continues to set the industry standard for functional, eye-catching and sustainable labelling solutions.
