Covestro has reached an agreement to acquire the Swiss company Pontacol. The manufacturer of thermoplastic adhesive films is intended to expand the portfolio in the speciality films segment and strengthen the company's market presence in Europe.
According to Covestro, the acquisition will enable it to integrate new technologies and products into its own range. Pontacol, based in Schmitten (Switzerland) and with a production facility in Buxtehude (Germany), brings over 50 years of experience in the manufacture of multilayer adhesive films. Covestro is taking on around 100 employees at both sites.
The purchase price was not disclosed. According to Covestro, the financing will be provided in cash. The acquisition is expected to be completed in the third quarter of 2025.
Strategic expansion through synergies
Pontacol's focus on thermoplastic adhesive films complements Covestro's existing portfolio with flat and blown films for demanding applications. According to the company, the global market for films is growing, particularly in promising industries. The takeover opens up potential in the value chain, for example through synergies in organisation and procurement as well as improved regional availability.
