220 packs of different sizes per hour with the highest possible availability: these are the key figures of the new packaging process for Atomic Austria GmbH in Altenmarkt. Packsize developed the automated system especially for the manufacturer of ski sports articles for the simultaneous packaging of cubic and long packs.
„We have been working reliably and successfully with Atomic since 2013,“ says Frank Langerbeins, General Manager Sales D-A-CH at Packsize GmbH. Strong growth, online retail and B2B business have now called for greater automation and even higher productivity. „With efficient and specifically developed processes, we have now reached a new level together with Atomic. Bulky products such as skis run along the same lines as gloves and helmets."

From skis to ski boots and helmets to sportswear: Atomic products vary greatly in size, shape and weight. For safe and sustainable shipping both rather cubic and long parcels can be optimally packed. And all this with assured product protection and greater sustainability thanks to the reduction in packaging and filling material.
PackLeap, joint brand of Packsize and Becker Sondermaschinenbau, mastered these challenges of process development and implementation. A specially developed cutting machine from Becker was perfectly integrated into two parallel packaging lines. The two lines comprise each with a product preparation and placement station, a semi-automatic case erector and a sealing machine including a label applicator. This was accompanied by a significant increase in efficiency. The number of packaged orders increased from 125 to 220 per hour, with fewer employees.
Automated system ensures satisfaction
Kristel Verreth, Project Manager at Atomic, is convinced by the new packaging process. The many years of successful collaboration with Packsize formed the basis for the current project. „We are delighted to benefit from their expertise in On Demand Packaging to be able to benefit. We are now able to cope with both the increased order volume and the challenges posed by the diversity of our products in terms of size and shape.“
