Every foodstuff has special requirements for its packaging. At Fachpack 2025, Delfort will be showcasing barrier papers that combine product and recycling requirements - for applications ranging from frozen products to muesli.

At the trade fair, the company will be presenting its complete range of barrier papers for applications such as ice lollies, chocolate bars and tablets, muesli or fold-wrap packaging for butter, soup cubes and confectionery. Each food product has its own requirements in terms of barrier functionality. For example, ice cream and other frozen products need to be protected against moisture and freezer burn. Cheese or chocolate require fat barriers that are reliable even at high temperatures. Dry products such as muesli, rice or powder, on the other hand, require strong barriers against oxygen and moisture.

„Barrier paper is never standardised, but always tailored to the product it is intended to package. We specifically combine the right barrier with the requirements for storage, transport, packaging process and recycling.“

Peter Hackl, Head of the Packaging division at Delfort.

Flexible processing and machine integration

The form of packaging is just as important: the company will be showcasing wraparound, stand-up pouches and flow-wrap packaging. including transparent paper variants. All papers can be printed using flexographic and gravure printing and can be heat-sealed or cold-sealed. They can also be run on standard FFS packaging machines. „We ensure this through close cooperation with various packaging machine manufacturers,“ says Hackl. This is because the machine settings often determine whether the switch from conventional materials to new, sustainable barrier papers work without any problems. „We create process reliability for our customers through preliminary tests.“

Focus on sustainability and regulation

For Delfort Recyclability and legal requirements such as the EU packaging regulation (PPWR) central guidelines in product development. All barrier papers are made from renewable, FSC or PEFC-certified fibres and meet the CEPI test for recyclability. This means they actively support packaging manufacturers on the path to a circular economy and resource conservation.

On 23 September Delfort and its research partner Delsci will be presenting practical applications for paper packaging in the „Pavilion alternative packaging solutions“ exhibitor forum.
