Digital solutions for packaging technology

At IFFA, GEA will be presenting new digital solutions such as a user interface for food processing and packaging systems.

With a 24 metre long production line for cold cuts, GEA is presenting new digital solutions at IFFA. These include new packaging technology such as a user interface for food processing and packaging systems.

With the expansion and further development of modular, digital tools GEA Customers on the path to digital transformation. The digital products and services increase machine and system availability and therefore productivity - this creates far-reaching efficiency and therefore competitive advantages for food processing companies.

Applications for food processing and packaging

GEA SmartControl HMI (Human-Machine Interface) is a newly developed User interface for food processing and packaging systems. The user-oriented development approach ensures that the individual users of the production system take centre stage. The needs of the individual user groups were mapped and taken into account accordingly.

With smart functions for line integration, it offers added value for line applications, meaning they can be used immediately and without further configuration. SmartControl HMI enables the integration of other company components and access to third-party user interfaces. The new platform ensures Transparency with regard to current and historical process data and events. The modular and hygienic hardware design of the multi-touch display ensures ergonomic operation that fulfils even complex user requirements.

PerformancePlus offers customers service packages that go beyond traditional maintenance and complement an Industry 4.0 strategy. It includes the topics of condition monitoring and predictive maintenance. Customers receive valuable information to help them make decisions on how to utilise their systems more efficiently. The concept creates Transparency about the actual condition of the systems, identifies potential for increasing availability, increasing productivity, reducing losses and increases profitability. This efficiency optimisation enables the sustainable management of the respective packaging line.

The LineControl monitors the performance and status of the production line in general and each individual machine in the line network in detail in real time. In collaboration with customers, emphasis was placed on simple operation of the control system, which automates the processes and procedures for the entire line. This increases safety and reduces downtime, rework and waste of energy and resources, allowing food manufacturers to work more efficiently and deliver higher quality products. This digital solution alerts the user when the line needs maintenance, servicing or repair and provides data to help extend the life and increase productivity of the line.
