The 27th Dresden Packaging Conference is dedicated to „Generation Z“. Under the event title „Know-how now. Sustainability and speed“, the two-day event on Thursday, 30 November 2017, and Friday, 1 December 2017, will explore „Generation Z and its relationship to packaging“.
The organisers of the now traditional conference at the Dreikönigskirche in the Saxon state capital understand „Generation Z“ to mean a „fairly sophisticated“ Age cohort, who are just starting their careers. In the conference brochure, they summarise the findings of a survey conducted by the Chemnitz Advertising agency „House E“ has commissioned. According to the study, „Generation Z“ has a particular Consumer behaviour on. It focuses strongly on the properties of the product in the packaging and less on the „shell“. Packaging would be based primarily on criteria such as Use of materials, Environmental friendliness and Recyclability assessed. Traditional packaging functions, such as protecting the product or ensuring hygiene, took second place. For the Packaging industry this means a necessary reorientation towards the next generation target group.
The results of the „Generation Z“ survey are one of the many topics of the conference programme. The conference programme is divided into two large blocks. In the first part, the presentations are organised under the motto „Sustainability versus greenwashing. Where is the journey heading?“. The speakers will deal with topics such as the new Packaging Act, water-based gravure and flexographic printing inks or even the sustainable Packaging development for private labels.
The second part was entitled „Speed in developments and packaging processes“. Here, the speakers presented, for example, the use of 3D animation and "Rapid prototyping“ in packaging development and discuss the question of how the „Internet of Things“ will change products and business models.
