The world's leading trade fair for the beverage and liquid food industry will be postponed until autumn 2022. This was decided today by Messe München together with the drinktec Advisory Board.
The new date is 12 to 16 September 2022. In view of the highly international nature of the drinktec mandatory. Moreover, the timing of the decision could not be postponed any further. The reason for this is the long planning lead times for industrial goods trade fairs with complex high-tech plant engineering.

Despite the coronavirus crisis, drinktec is experiencing strong demand for space from Germany and abroad. Three quarters of the available exhibition space has already been booked.
„It is precisely this trust in the brand and the quality of drinktec as the world's leading trade fair that obliges us to fulfil our customers' expectations. While we were recently able to assume that the pandemic situation would calm down and that international travel would pick up, the current situation no longer allows such an assessment. Two thirds of all drinktec visitors come from abroad, and half of them from other continents. In view of these facts, we cannot fulfil the promise of a world-leading trade fair this year.“ Dr Reinhard Pfeiffer, Deputy Chairman of the Board of Management of Messe München
Only every four years the global beverage industry gathers in Munich. „The companies time their innovations according to this cycle. We therefore had to find a suitable and timely date in the trade fair calendar. A cancellation and a trade fair gap of eight years would be unacceptable for the industry,“ explains Dr Pfeiffer.
Market awaits a strong drinktec 2022
The conceptual sponsor of drinktec, VDMA, supports the decision. Richard Clemens, Managing Director VDMA Food processing and packaging machinery: „The beverage industry, which has been hit hard by coronavirus, needs impetus that cannot come from a drinktec weakened by travel restrictions. The market is waiting to a strong drinktec 2022. This trade fair will once again provide the necessary impetus for the entire industry.“
The preparations and planning to date for drinktec 2021 and the integrated oils+fats will now be seamlessly converted to the new date of 2022.
