DS Smith introduces ParceLive technology

Packaging with tracker from DS Smith

DS Smith has signed an exclusive partnership agreement with Hanhaa. As part of this collaboration, DS Smith will use the innovative ParceLive technology to track, measure and optimise deliveries and delivery conditions across the entire supply chain.

ParceLive is a sophisticated multi-sensory tracker. It is attached inside the packaging and continuously transmits real-time data about the conditions within the supply chain. This includes data on temperature, humidity, location and whether a parcel has been dropped, tipped or opened. The data is recorded regardless of the transport method and sent to an online platform. This allows customers to track where their products are in real time and what conditions and stresses the individual parcels have been exposed to.

Real-time delivery monitoring thanks to ParceLive

This tracking technology offers many potential applications for high-value, time-critical or theft or grey market sensitive products. In addition, with a better understanding of individual supply chain conditions, DS Smith can drive further optimisation of packaging specifications and tailor them to specific supply chains.

The partnership follows a successful trial of ParceLive with one of the global consumer goods customers of DS Smith. During the test, the real-time monitoring of supply chain conditions proved to be very effective. It also enabled subtle changes to be made to further optimise and adapt the packaging specifications. DS Smith is now in the process of extending the test programme to other customers.

"Our packaging solutions are essential. When it comes to helping our customers deliver their products safely across different markets and supply chains. Partnering with ParceLive allows us to gain real-time insight into the performance of the packaging and also helps us to find the root cause of any events or issues that occur. By knowing exactly what is happening at every touchpoint along the supply chain, we can help our customers and their logistics partners achieve good results in terms of packaging performance, quality, safety and sustainability." Eliot Kirby, Head of Supply Chain Innovation at DS Smith.
