DuPont Transportation & Advanced Polymers, a global business unit of the DowDuPont Specialty Products Division, is launching its new DOW CORNING™ AMB-12235 masterbatch for polyethylene (PE) blown films at Chinaplas 2019. The masterbatch combines an anti-blocking agent with a compatible slip agent to improve film processability and ensure consistent product quality.
The synergy of the two active ingredients in their specific combination and quantity results in a permanently low coefficient of friction (COF). The targeted formulation also helps to prevent the migration of the substances to the film surface so that subsequent processing steps are not impaired, and helps to minimise the blocking of the films to prevent damage caused by this - all this at a cost-effective low dosage.
DOW CORNING™ AMB-12235 Masterbatch is available in Europe, the USA and China for Applications with food contact approved. This represents the latest innovation in DuPont's new portfolio of silicone-based solutions to enhance properties, improve processability and reinforce materials.
„This new technological advancement reinforces our determined contribution to the success of the packaging industry with innovative, silicone-based solutions for smooth throughput, high productivity and consistent quality,“ says Christophe Paulo, Industrial & Consumer Strategic Marketer, EMEA, DuPont. „The high performance combined masterbatch meets customer demands for a simpler solution to the Optimising the processing of PE films against. It eliminates the time and labour required to determine the correct ratio of anti-blocking and lubricants in film production. At the same time, it leads to more rationalised handling, storage and management of additive stocks.“
Improved film processing
The silicone-based lubricant in DOW CORNING™ AMB-12235 masterbatch helps to reduce the COF of blown films and thus their sliding resistance against themselves or on rollers and cylinders in production. The Improved gliding properties is retained permanently and even at elevated temperatures.
Unlike organic lubricants, DuPont's masterbatch does not migrate to the surface of the inner film skin. In addition, tests have shown that it has no negative influence on the mechanical properties.
Assured compatibility and cost efficiency
DuPont has formulated DOW CORNING™ AMB-12235 masterbatch with the aim of ensuring compatibility between the anti-blocking agent and the lubricant and to achieve a best possible ratio of the active ingredients. The fine-tuned formulation relieves customers of the tedious task of determining the compatibility and dosage of individual additives.
From a cost perspective, the new masterbatch is extremely economical with a typical dosage of just four to six per cent by weight. It can also potentially replace processing aids that are frequently used for PE films.
Simplified production, warehousing and logistics
The combined approach to PE film additives can simplify production by reducing the number of additive feeders required, saving space and simplifying the infrastructure. Off the production line, it takes up less storage space, simplifies procurement management and rationalises material handling.
