The previous Deputy Chairman Wolf-Dieter Baumann is the new Chairman of the Executive Board of the German Packaging Institute (dvi). He was unanimously elected at the dvi Board meeting at the end of September 2018. All nine other board members were confirmed in office.
Baumann has been a member of the Executive Board since 2009 and took over from Thomas Reiner took over the company. The 61-year-old father of two children studied mechanical engineering and has more than 35 years of experience in the Packaging industry. He currently supports a number of companies in the packaging and packaging machinery industry as a member of the advisory board or supervisory board of Deutsche Beteiligungs-AG.
The new Chairman of the Executive Board paid tribute to his predecessor: „Thomas Reiner has German Packaging Institute since its foundation in 1990 and has developed and positioned it extremely successfully in twelve years as CEO. He has networked the companies in the packaging industry, created important innovation forums for them, and, with the Packaging Academy We have trained over 2,500 specialists and organised a series of important conferences, congresses and cooperation projects.“
Digitalisation and sustainability are on the agenda
Baumann sees a central point of his future activities as Chairman of the dvi in the areas of Digitalisation and sustainability„Demographic, ecological and technological developments pose major challenges for packaging. Precisely because packaging is an indispensable part of the infrastructure for industry, trade and consumers, it must fulfil its many tasks in a sustainable way.“

Ten-member board represents more than 230 members
The Board of the dvi consists of the Chairman: Dr Bettina Horenburg (Siegwerk Druckfarben), Stephan Karl (Tetra Pak), Dr Andreas Blaschke (Mayr-Melnhof), Wolfgang Hinkel (Ball Packaging), Albert Klinkhammer (Mondi), Torge Kirchhoff (Taxellenz), Fabian Neumann (Mitteldeutsche Erfrischungsgetränke), Dr Monika Kaßmann (WGFV) and Stephan Wirtz (Jeschenko MedienAgentur). The ten-member board of the dvi, which was founded in 1990, represents more than 230 member companies.
The association covers all areas of Packaging value chain from. Numerous events and projects such as the German Packaging Award, the German Packaging Congress, the Packaging Day, The dvi organises the „Packaging Conference“, the Dresden Packaging Conference, the Packaging Academy, the "Forum Packaging Strategies" and the PackVision project for young talent.
