The refrigerated packaging specialist Ecocool is now making its insulating film available as a compact roll together with a handy packaging machine. This means that insulating inserts for boxes can be produced directly at the packaging station.
The storage of Insulated packaging material for temperature-sensitive foods takes up a lot of space and is expensive. For online mail order companies in particular, this involves a great deal of logistical and organisational effort. This is why the refrigerated packaging specialist Ecocool now offers the Thermo Airsafe solution on. Customers receive the two-layer, metallised insulating film as a compact roll together with a small and handy packaging machine.
This means that the insulating insert can be quickly and easily directly at the packing station for the boxes; high logistics costs and storage requirements are eliminated. The machine fills special chambers of the film with air so that a layer of insulation approximately two centimetres thick is created, which, together with the metallised film, ensures good insulation performance.
„This means our customers don't need to keep expensive stocks. A single roll of our high-quality insulating film is enough to efficiently insulate over 200 boxes and, in combination with cold packs, guarantee a cooling time of at least 24 hours.“
Dr Florian Siedenburg, Ecocool Managing Director
In addition to the logistical advantages, Thermo Airsafe is also sustainable, as the solution is characterised by low resource consumption. To insulate a shipping box in the standard 400 x 300 x 250 millimetre format only 39 grams of insulating material required, which is recyclable. In addition, CO2 emissions in logistics are significantly reduced: instead of an entire lorry full of packaging material, only one package with one or two rolls of Thermo Airsafe film needs to be shipped. „This important sustainability aspect is often overlooked when the focus is only on the material used,“ says Siedenburg. The Ecocool Managing Director cites the following as further product benefits the good shock-absorbing effect of the filled Thermo Airsafe film.
At well under two euros per insulating insert for boxes in this format, the new packaging solution is comparatively inexpensive. The customised bubble wrap is combined with matching outer cartons and classic cooling elements. This is the film can be adapted to any package and many box sizes, if the customer uses their own boxes.
In climate chamber tests, Ecocool was able to achieve a very high Good performance with passive cooling prove it. At typical summer outside temperatures of 18 to 32 degrees Celsius, the Thermo Airsafe Box was able to maintain the target temperature of 8 degrees Celsius for more than 48 hours. A classic shipping box measuring 400 x 300 x 25 millimetres was loaded with 3.25 kilograms of goods and four kilograms of cooling elements.
