Ecosurety strengthens reuse strategy

Ecosurety has taken over the refill-return platform of the environmental organisation City to Sea. By integrating the app and website, the company aims to strategically expand its activities in the area of reusable packaging systems in the UK.

According to Ecosurety, the digital tools will be embedded in a wider reuse strategy to enable a nationally coherent reuse infrastructure network. Robbie Staniforth, Director of Innovation and Policy at Ecosurety, said: „We have worked closely with City to Sea for many years, united by our shared commitment to sustainability and innovation. Their values have always been close to ours and when we learnt of a potential closure, we worked together to secure a legacy for the impressive assets they have built over the past decade. We are determined to ensure that their pioneering work in reuse and refill continues to have a lasting impact.“ CEO Will Ghali added: „We are proud to continue City to Sea's pioneering work in the refill and reuse sector. The acquisition of the refill-return platform strengthens our ability to develop scalable returnable systems. We look forward to accelerating the shift from single-use to reusable and moving closer to our goal of eliminating unnecessary packaging.“

Continuation of the City-to-Sea initiatives

City to Sea welcomes the acquisition. CEO Jane Martin said: „We are delighted that Ecosurety will continue the journey we have started. Their expertise in compliance and data, combined with our commitment to campaigning and community projects, creates a strong platform for change. We look forward to seeing how these assets continue to thrive in their new environment.“

Significance for the British reuse landscape

With this step, Ecosurety aims to strengthen its role as a driver of sustainable packaging systems. According to the company, the expansion of digital and physical reuse infrastructures will help to influence the political framework and support the transition to recyclable packaging solutions in the UK. The acquisition of the refill-return assets is seen as a strategic building block to enable standardised reusable solutions across different regions and areas of application in the future.
