It all started at the production plant in Owen with a Welcome and presentation of the company by the C-Level - this is the name of the management team that has been running the company in its current constellation since the beginning of April 2023. Xavier Hamers, the new CEO of Leuze, who took up his position in April, was the first to take the floor and introduce his colleagues. Helge Held and Dr Henning Grönzin have been responsible for the respective areas as Commercial Managing Director and Technical Managing Director respectively since 2022. Jochen Wimmer completes the C-level as COO and Managing Director of Leuze Assembly.

Dr Grönzin and Jochen Wimmer took the opportunity to show the visitors around the production plant in Owen and the distribution centre in Unterlenningen. The tour started in Owen. Sensors and other Leuze products are manufactured here over an area of 3,000 square metres. On three lines of switching sensors are produced, which are particularly relevant for the packaging industry. In addition to the packaging industry, the Intralogistics, machine tools, the automotive industry and laboratory automation are among the relevant sectors and customers of Leuze.

Identification applications such as scanners and the company's security solutions are also produced in Owen. During his tour of the production facility, Dr Grönzin demonstrated the production of security light curtains, among other things. Man and machine work together here, because not everything can be done by robots. It is precisely the fine motorised work that the company's employees carry out on the 25 lines on which other products from the entire product range are manufactured. become. And this continues at the next location in Unterlenningen. This is where Leuze's distribution centre is located, consisting of a modern high-bay warehouse and 30,000 storage spaces for automated small parts warehouses. Jochen Wimmer guides us through the large hall, which also houses many of its own sensors and scanners are used. Every day, 1,000 parcels are dispatched from here and picks of 2,000 items are completed. The workstations are ergonomically designed for the employees and there is space for another building of this size.

Driving here incessantly Boxes with different Leuze products to the warehouse, to the picking stations and finally to the ready-packed parcels back to the end of the conveyor belt. From Unterlenningen, the products start their journey around the world. The European market, as well as international plants and distribution centres, are supplied from here. The third and final stop of the impressions-rich press event is the plant in Unterstadion. This is where Leuze Assembly is based and assembles printed circuit boards. On three SMD (surface-mounted device) lines are used to assemble circuit boards here - 320 million per year. The size of the boards varies, as does the number of SMD parts with which they are fitted. In the end, they are used in various technical devices all over the world.

In Unterstadion, Georg Denkinger took over the tour of production. Here, too, they work in shifts, and once again people and machines work hand in hand. The lines are fully automated and every PCB that leaves the site has been thoroughly tested beforehand. This is done by four flying-needle proof stations, among other things. If something is wrong, the fine motor skills of the employees are required. At the end, the press representatives were bid farewell in beautiful weather. A few impressions remain in their minds at the end: the high degree of automation at the three sites, the precision and enthusiasm with which work is carried out here.
