Aquapak is presenting its environmentally friendly Hydropol for the first time at K 2022. The high-performance polymer offers the required functionality. Recycling is to be increased and plastic pollution reduced.
The British company Aquapak has successfully developed and marketed Hydropol. It is based on polyvinyl alcohol (PVOH), is biodegradable and compostable, non-toxic to the environment and marine grade, so it has a safe end of life. if it is not disposed of as intended.
Hydropol offers all the important functional properties required for packaging and can replace ethylene vinyl alcohol (EVOH) in many applications. In extrusion coating or lamination on paper, Hydropol provides additional strength and barriers against oxygen, oil and grease, and its solubility allows for 100% recovery of paper fibres through paper recycling plants. It can be used for a range of products, including mailing bags for e-commerce and packaging for dried pet food, snacks, cooked meat and ready meals.
„Hydropol offers an environmentally friendly alternative to other plastic packaging without compromising on functionality. We are delighted to be showcasing it for the first time at the K show as we anticipate high demand as interest in truly sustainable packaging solutions grows.“
DisplayMark Lapping, CEO of Aquapak, comments
In response to the growing demand for sustainable solutions, Resinex, a pan-European distributor with a leading position in the plastics and rubber market, and Aquapak have recently signed an important new distribution agreement.
Under this agreement, Resinex will distribute Hydropol on an exclusive basis as a barrier film in all European countries except Italy, Spain and Portugal. This comes at a time when the most commonly used oxygen barrier, EVOH, is currently in short supply worldwide and is only available through limited market channels.
