Essel Propack Europe, part of the global manufacturer of laminated plastic tubes headquartered in Mumbai, has developed the tube material type Platina and thus received the coveted RecyClass certification for Europe.

This officially and independently confirms that Essel tubes with an HDPE cap are 100 per cent recyclable. RecyClass is an initiative that Recyclability of plastic packaging in Europe promoted and evaluated. The European certification of RecyClass for the area of Code 2 (recycling) is subject to a number of conditions. This concerns, among other things, the composition of the tube.

Recyclass analyses test results

The packaging body must be white and made of PE for certification. In addition, the Use of EVOH strictly limited and must not exceed five per cent of the total weight of the tube. For the assessment, RecyClass analysed the results of the Plastics Forming Enterprise (PFE) test. These were previously carried out on the basis of the APR HDPE Critical and Application Guidance (US trade association of the plastics recycling industry).

This confirms that in a recycling process Material obtained from the Platina tube material can be reused in high-density polyethylene containers (HDPE). The prerequisite for this is that the cap is made of PE or is separated from the tube before the recycling process.
