The European Commission has authorised the acquisition of the German, Dutch and British packaging activities of the Schumacher Group by Mondi.

The European Commission has cleared under EU merger control rules the proposed acquisition of significant businesses of the Schumacher Group by Mondi plc. Specifically, the transaction concerns Schumacher's corrugated solutions and solid board packaging activities in Germany, the Netherlands and the UK. The completion of the transaction would give Mondi sole control over the businesses concerned.

The audit focussed in particular on the corrugated packaging markets, including conventional, litho-laminated and particularly robust packaging solutions. The Following an in-depth review, the EU Commission concluded that the takeover did not give rise to any competition concerns. In particular, no significant impact on competition in the affected regional markets, including certain areas in Germany and Austria, is expected.

The review was carried out as part of the European Commission's regular merger control proceedings. According to the Commission, the decisive factors for the clearance included the limited market change resulting from the transaction and the continued competitive environment in the affected product segments.
