The best cartonboard packaging on the market has now been honoured with this year's European Carton Excellence Award in Krakow. The cartonboard of the year went to General/Snack Tomatoes from Rutgers Printing & Packaging Solutions, made from cartonboard from Stora Enso.
The European Carton Excellence Award, which honours distinctive packaging concepts that are already successful on the market, was presented in Poland for the first time. „The submissions clearly show the leading role of cartonboard solutions on the path to a circular economy„, says Winfried Mühling, Managing Director of Pro Carton. For some time now, the number of structural and conceptual innovations has been increasing. The main aim is to replace previous plastic solutions, whereas previous competition entries were often visually and functionally very appealing.
„The judges look at where a pack has certain advantages or benefits, whether it be in terms of material saving, structural design, feel, merchandising and of course consumer understanding and benefit. This year we have noticed that whereas a few years ago we had a lot of entries focussing on print finishes, new printing techniques and embossing/textures, we are now seeing more and more ingenious, clever boxes whose structures have been very carefully thought through.“
