Europe's largest dishwashing centre opens in Strasbourg

The French company Uzaje inaugurated an innovative rinsing centre for the reuse of food containers in Strasbourg on 8 October 2024. The site is intended to promote the circular economy and also offers German companies a sustainable solution.

With the opening of the new dishwashing centre in Strasbourg, Uzaje is setting a milestone for the Industrial reuse of containers. On an area of 4,000 square metres, tens of thousands of containers from restaurants, communal catering and the food industry can be cleaned every day. The state-of-the-art facility fulfils the ISO 22000 and 9001 standards, which stand for food safety and quality management. According to Uzaje, water, electricity and detergent consumption should be minimised in order to ensure ecological efficiency.

The centre is the largest of its kind in Europe and enables the Cleaning containers made of different materials such as glass, stainless steel and plastic. Special washing lines for open containers and bottles as well as a patented machine for removing labels ensure the highest hygienic standards and optimum preparation for reuse.

The location is also of interest to German companies. The reusable system „Zerooo“ for cosmetics and drugstore products were among the first customers. The founders emphasise that the collaboration with Uzaje represents a sustainable and efficient solution for their reusable packaging.

The opening of the Strasbourg flushing centre is also in line with the new EU regulations on the reuse of packaging, which have been strengthened by the PPWR regulation. Emmanuel Auberger, CEO of Uzaje, sees great potential in the Franco-German border region in order to utilise the Expansion of the circular economy and significantly reduce waste.
