At Fruit Logistica on 8 February, experts from the industry will come together to discuss the effects of the planned Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation. The panel discussion will be organised by Pro Food.
At a crucial moment for the packaging industry, Pro Food, a product group within the Federazione Gomma Plastica (Confindustria), which includes 14 Italian companies that produce plastic containers for food and beverages, is stepping up its information and awareness-raising efforts by organising a Panel discussion on the new European Packaging Regulation and its impact on the dynamics of packaging, distribution and consumption of fruit and vegetables.
The panel discussion will take place on 8 February at 12:15 (Hall 27 - Room Beta 5) as part of the Fruit Logistica will feature a panel discussion with representatives from key industry associations, including Daniel Duguay from the Canadian Produce Marketing Association, Martin Engelmann from the German Association of Plastics Processors (IK) as well as representatives of European fruit and vegetable production such as Massimiliano Del Core from Ortofrutta Italia, Luc Vanoirbeek, President of the F&V working group of COPA-COGECA, and Luigi Scordamaglia, CEO of Filiera Italia.
Pro Food has already made a name for itself with its position on the European Union's proposal for a regulation on packaging and packaging waste (PPWR):
„Packaging is an essential part of various essential industries, such as the fruit and vegetable sector. This regulation currently ignores impacts such as the growing problem of food waste associated with the disposal of packaging, as well as potential hygiene and consumer safety risks associated with the disposal of single-use packaging. We need a proposal that reconciles the objectives of environmental sustainability with the need to preserve food safety and create a more resilient European food system.“
